Carolean Crescent

Property: 1 bed new-build apartment / Location: SE London

Transforming this room from a nondescript new-build bathroom, complete with beige tiles and dark wood-effect laminate panels on a small budget took some serious imagination.

The bathroom in my apartment was the last room to be touched; partly because there wasn't the budget to replace the existing fixtures, fittings and tiles, so a lot of research and careful planning had to be undertaken to ensure any chosen coatings would be long lasting and suitable for a bathroom environment.

Inspiration for the design came from many places, but in particular the bathroom of a riad I stayed in in Marrakech, which had the most stunning circle motif tiles on the floor and walls. I had always wanted a bathroom with a black and white terrazzo countertop, so I created the effect by hand painting the same pattern on the existing brown laminate surface.
