DESIGN
Challenging the commonly held belief that painting walls and ceilings black makes a space feel small and enclosed, I employed the technique of painting dark sections at either end of the room, which instead work to lengthen the space. Extending these blocks onto the ceiling also gives the illusion of extra height. Much needed, as this narrow, angular space has no direct source of natural light.
The geometric shapes of the hand-painted mural are also referenced in the patterned planters and the upcycled vintage pendant lights, whilst mid-century details can be found throughout; from the sideboard to the table lamp and brutalist screen prints.
